What we see here

Roofs in Southmead

A planned interwar estate

Southmead was begun as a council estate under the 1924 Housing Act and expanded through the 1930s, with a post-war estate following. Many roofs date from the same few decades.

Repeated house types

Estates were built to a small number of designs, so the same weak points tend to recur street by street. That helps us diagnose quickly.

Green edges

Badock’s Wood, with the River Trym running through it, and Henleaze Lake, a flooded former limestone quarry, sit on Southmead’s edge. Trees mean leaves in gutters every autumn.

Roofing in Southmead

Southmead lies directly north of Henleaze and was largely built as a planned estate between the wars, then extended after the Second World War. Because so many houses were built in the same period and to similar designs, roofs here tend to reach the same stage of life at about the same time.

We will tell you what your roof is made of and how it is built when we have seen it, rather than guess from the street. On roofs of this age we often find failed ridge bedding, slipping tiles and worn-out flat roofs on later extensions, porches and garages, and we quote for repairs before replacement wherever that is the honest answer.

We work across Southmead, Henleaze, Westbury-on-Trym and the surrounding areas.
